What do dolphins plan for?
Not the right bag that will carry the wallet, the keys, the hand sanitizer
Or the train that sometimes comes late
Or which end of the block to cross at

Do elephants worry about shrinking sweaters in the dryer
Or the missing sock that is never found?

Do crows count calories in anticipation
Of bathing suit season?
Or keep receipts for tax time?

What could I do if my mind were
free to roam?
I would surf alongside you through crested waves
And hug you with my trunk
I would leave you gifts of shiny treasures on your fire escape
And never once think of charging my phone before I left my apartment
Ever again
